from the beginning
so this is how it goes:
I live in a city called Konstanz, which is situated on a lake on the border of Germany and Switzerland. Practically, half of the city is German and the other half is Swiss, and u can go for a coffee over the border. The place is absolutely beautifull, just like they show Germany on calendars, the woods, the like - the whole package. I live in the student dorms, 15 mintes walk through the woods, or 5 minutes by bus from the university. I have my own appartment with a small kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony. It´s really great, it´s actually the best appartment posible here, and all the other students wine about their rooms all the time. It´s very exciting for me to be on my own for the first time, do my own shopping, cooking and laundry. The semester hasn´t started here yet, so the germans are still not here. We, the foreign students have a language course before the semester starts, so we´re already working. It´s called the orientation program and we´re about 120 students all over the world. 3 from TAU. The germans make a really big effort to bring us all together, and they managed pretty well - there´s a party going on every night. Most of the students are around 21, i´m not used to that, they are kids for me. They also drink like crazy! Some of the americans are under age, so here they go absolutely wild. Also the beer is cheep - the scandinavians simply carry a barrel of beer after them everywhere they go. It´s really cool to meet all these ppl all around the world! My Best friend is Christopher from England, he lives just above and we do everything together. He´s 20, his girl friend is waiting for him in Warwick, he has a killing british accent, which i´m trying persistently but not so successfuly to imitate, and even more killing blue-eyes. He´s a former rugby player, so he´s really big, and he grew only with his sister and his mother, so he knows his way with women. He keeps it cool 24 -7 and says that he doesnt really like anybody here and that he cant wait till the german come so that we can go to real german parties and make real german friends. He teaches me how to drink, he wouldn´t allow me to use american slang, and i like to watch how gets fascinated with spiders, gummy bears and flowers like a 5 year old. Everytime I go too mushi on him, he says i just miss my gay friends, which is very much true. So he´s teaching me how to be cool, and i´m teaching him that everything arises and passes. Basically, he´s trying not to die from boredom and me - i need my privat infatuation just to get me going...
My second new friend Is Allison from NY. The funny thing is that I´ve been to NYC about 4 times more than she has. Allison is a professional runner, so she´s a bit like Lola from "run Lola run", she says that running is just faster. At first I thought that she´s just an american redneck, but Christopher said she looks like someone he could have fun with, so I decided to give her a chance, since i dont´s trust my judgement anyway. She proved herself when we went clubbing and she went absolutely crazy on that hip-hop night! So now we have our exclusive party of 3, and we keep walking around and saying how we dont like anybody here, and all these ppl are boring - or "twats" as Cristopher puts it. The only ones that are accepted to our moadon are Tomer, the other israeli, and Andreash from Hungary, whom i keep calling Tomash, but he apparently doesnt notice that , cause he´s drunk most of the time anyway. Tomer and I get along really well, although, while Christopher and I are tkuim batahat ehad shel hasheny all day long, tomer has already made himself a 120 friends. He goes to all the parties and tries to keep up with all the europeans in drinking beer. Tomer and I are planning to go traveling all around Europe in our 2 weeks of in the beginning of October, before school starts - this of course if i ever get to the internet and start looking up for things instead of going drinking every night. We´ve already went to Zurich for a day - it´s only 1.5 hours by train. Andreash is actaully Tomer´s friend, he has a british accent of an unknown origin and he knows all about the political intrigues in the israeli government. The third israeli, Lior, is doing his Ph.D., he´s really weird and he asks everybody if they´re married - so he´s not really into all our debauchery. We met another israeli here, which is a big deal concerning the fact that this city has 80,000 citizens, which is less than Rashlatz, and the university has only 7,000 students, 1,000 of which are foreigners. So that fourth israeli apparently also speaks russian, of which i was absolutely excited because i found someone that speaks all the languages i do - russian, hebrew, english, french and german. Apropos the languages, my head goes totally crazy here (although now i got a bit used to that already) - I speak english to my friends, hebrew to tomer, german in class - while my dictionary is in russian, i write translations in hebrew cause it´s shorter and the teacher explains in english - and i also have a french friend who refuses to speak to me any language other than french. aaaaah!!!!
although i should make more german friends, cause the only language that is getting better here is my english. Christopher says that in england they have some TV show with this guy that pretends he´s from Kazakhstan - and that´s the kind of accent i have when i speak english, but i don´t even care anymore becase apparently any language i speak there are ppl who make a good laugh out of my accent...
The weather is amazing. It first it was hot like in israel, but now it´s all chilly and fresh. The scandinavians make fun of me because i carry my fur coat with me everywhere and put sunblock on the beach (of course being whiter than all of them together), but the last time i listened to them was when we went swimming in the lake and they could swear the water is hot like in a kettle - i ended up shivering for 4 hours straight, looking like a homeless, wraped 5 times in Christopher´s towel.
Today in class I tought everybody how to do "rega" with your hand, and it figures that this gesture means something rather inapropriate in italien. I´m also trying to explain them that ppl are not supposed to do everything they´re told, that rules are made to be broken, and that trying to fuck the system instead of submitting to it is much more sutisfying. Also, aparently I overuse the ´f´ word, becaue everytime i say "where the fuck is the fucking bus! i´m fucking tired!" the americans turn their heads and open big eyes on me.
The germans are extremely nice. Just as we arrived we asked some gentleman in the airport how to get to a certain place, and he went all the way up the stairs with his suitcase just to bring us a map. The more educated speak english, but u can´t really make it without german here.
well, that´s all folks...
Life is certainly wonderful and amazing when i lead this absolutely careles way of life with my parents credit card in my wallet (although it´s only for traveling, i do get along with my scolorship), with an absolut academic freedom, with the view of the lake and the woods i see from the window as i write this lines, with my own appartment, my multilingual relationships, substance abuse and a mild emotional instability caused by everything alltogether, but mainly by missing my friends, my computer, my music (my discman got broke), and being carried away, as a tendency, by unhealthy affection for the wrong ppl. what i would ask for is a hug, a big one. Christopher promissed he´s not going to give me any, but i wouldnt ask.
but i´m gonna be fine! and i´m still going to the States for New- Year´s, where i´m certainly going to be hugged - either by my family in sacramento (it´s a family reunion, so they sure will not spare the hugs from me), or by my fag in NYC (cause i know Roy, u´ve been saving your hugs from me since Pesah).
...meanwhile i keep buying stocks of Milka chocolatebars (they have one with halva!), stinky cheese, schweinwurst (pork sossages), all kinds of mushrooms and berries i haven´t eaten since Moscow days, and i still drink more tee and eat more jam than my english friend... but i do get used to beer and football.
so i miss u all, and luv u tones
kisses from Deutschland
pictures will follow, as soon as i figure out how to upload them
